Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult

I will simply say that this is one of the realest, most thought provoking pieces of political writing that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. The statements; unlike so much of modern politics are realistic, thought out, and make sense. It touches on such troubling areas; as to why abortion rights are still scene as something that is up for grabs, why our politicians are grilled on there religious beliefs, and the Rights obsession with war, guns, and Jesus. You might not like what you read in this article, but it is key in understanding our countries move to favor billioneares and major corporations over the average American.

Starting Our Autumn Vegetables

I’ve started our fall planting, it always feels to early, as if planting these yummy vegetables beckons the winter to us, and quickens the end of these long southern summer days. Our summer vegetables were amazing, and I couldn’t keep up with them. Our friends were delighted, with the amount of tomatoes and peppers I’ve had to give away.

Our pepper plants have just hit there peak, producing sweet little orange peppers, and large yellow bells. But the true glory of the summer season was definitely our Roma tomato plants. I’d never grown Roma’s before and was shocked as I kept track of the pounds of tomatoes brought in through the season, we finished up with just under 28 pounds of tomatoes from one plant! They would probably still be going if it wasn’t for the humongous Tobacco Moth Caterpillars that devoured most of the plant before I was able to find them.

So for fall I’ve decided to add the great cold weather vegetables that we love to our peppers, purple basil, and regular basil. We have carrots, broccoli, kale, cauliflower, and once the frost hits and the peppers die back we’ll be adding garlic in as well. Don’t these little babies look yummy all ready!

How To: Harvest Flowers For You

These beautiful red and orange perennials grow in huge bunches around our home. There lavish flower display is so beautiful, that I couldn’t help cutting back a few choice branches to create this flower arrangement.

To start out you will need your cut flowers, scissors for trimming, a paper bag, raffia ribbon, and a large glass jar I used an old honey jar.

Than open your paper bag and roll it down two or three times until it is just a few inches taller then your jar. Next trim your oasis plant foam to fit into the jar.

When placing my flowers into the jar I start with the straightest stems, putting them into the center, and then place the curved branches around the outside.

Now put your water into the jar, since you are going to have to move the jar about, make sure there is at least an inch between the top of the jar and your water line. Then place the jar into the paper bag, and lightly squeeze together the paper bag under the fold line.

Wrap the raffia around 2-3 times so that it is nice and full, and then tie it into a bow. And that is all that it takes to make a beautiful rustic flower arrangement.
