Wedding season is on it’s way, but before it get’s here when love is in the air, it’s time to start thinking about planning that perfect custom engagement ring. This year colored stones are a big trend in both wedding and engagement rings, especially Emerald Green, the Pantone Color of the Year.

That’s why I wanted to talk to you a little today about stones. Stones that can be set into PMC have to be perfect, no fractures at all, and high rating number on the mohs scale, they should also be tested in the studio they are going to be used in. Some stones can be fired in one studio, but won’t survive in another, though most do work along the PMC guidelines.

The stones above can all be torch fired in Precious Metal Clay, and come in a host of different shapes and sizes, to create your dream piece. From the Beautiful White Sapphire that most resembles the diamond with its amazing refractivity, it’s one and only downside is that large size stones are hard to find, to the White Topaz. Sparkling and clear as water, and luckily available in larger sizes. Lovely Emerald green stones are available in the form of an incredibly rich green Chrome Diopside, and the Aquamarine colored Green Topaz makes for a beautiful piece. Blue Sapphires, red Garnets, Rubies, bright green Peridot, constantly shifting Alexandrite, bright yellow Chrysoberyl, and lovely Moonstone complete your ever expanding palette.
